We arrived! But it wasn’t easy. My trip started with a cancellation of my train due to personnel shortage. Following a detour I got an hour late in Düsseldorf airport. Luckily the airport was very quiet and checkin went smoothly. Only to find out that the flight was almost an hour late. With a transfer in Istanbul of only one hour…the stress was there to make it on time.

I did. And I was accompanied by my guide Roli Striemitzer and climber Rudi, both Austrians. When we arrived in Islamabad we were surprised how much more western the country feels than expected. It’s great to see all the trucks with decorations. We got installed into the hotel where we met up with some other German speaking team members: Christian and Moritz. Moritz was a two-time Everest summitter and now has his mind set on K2. At lunch two other members joined: Ken, from Japan, and Englishman Bruce. Apart from Moritz, none of us had 8000er experience. We got great food, got money and drinks and are now relaxing before flying to Skardu tomorrow.

“Hillside view”. Somewhere on the right… Kindness of the staff makes up greatly for the view though
Accidentally ate the green chili. Still on fire now.

More news soon! My location:

Ciao!
