And so the journey continues… by car though, instead of by plane. While checking in at the airport, it was suddenly announced that the flight was cancelled. No worries. Local organizer Ashgar had a van arranged within an hour with food and drinks. In the meantime our party had expended as a group of four Swiss (Hagen, Wolfi, Ingo and Urs) as well as an American couple (Robin – from now on referred to as ‘big Robin’ as he was bigger than me, and his wife Lauren). Most of them have an Everest summit one their name.
6 hours later, as I am writing this, we are at 1/3rd or the long journey towards Skardu over the hills and sketchy roads filled with water and sometimes goats or cows.
I sat next to Christian and was amazed to hear that he participated to a competition where he ran more than a marathon on a daily basis for over a month. An incredibly friendly guy who had the advantage of living right on a mountain, in contrast to my house which is 5 m below see level with the nearest mountain about 8 hours away. During the trip we got to see much of the beautiful landscape.
But….the road is closed due to snowfall. We have to be patient! We checked in to the Blue Glacier hotel and we’re immediately served a delicious meal. Tomorrow at 5 we continue our trip..
