It’s 4:30 when the alarm rings. I slept like a rock, despite the noise in the streets. At 5:10 we’re on our way again. The pass over the 4100 m high ridge is open and we’re all happy to cross it.

Suddenly we hit a traffic jam caused by falling rocks. We could see the rocks falling from the mountain, right in front of us. The car in front of us is hit. The driver steps out and runs. Our driver hits the accelerator hard and pushes through the road filled with rocks. A small rock hits us. A larger rock hits our van in front and breaks its window. We made it.

A few hours later we are in Skardu. Finally! As usual we are met with excellent and abundant food in our hotel. Last night sleeping in a bed! Tomorrow we drive to camp Askole. Weather is bad, but not as bad as in Broad Peak base camp. After the five-day trek to basecamp the weather should hopefully have cleared up.

During mid June to mid July, I will be on expedition to Broad Peak. You can track me here:

Ciao!
